Head of Fabrication
The Head of Fabrication is responsible for managing all fabrication operations at Upland.
This role oversees the production of exhibit components, ensures quality standards, and maintains safety regulations. The Head of Fabrication collaborates closely with the Head of Design, project managers, designers, and clients to bring exhibit designs to life, while managing a team of skilled craftspeople and technicians.
Responsibilities and Duties
Oversee the fabrication process. Manage all stages of the fabrication process, from initial planning to final installation. This includes scheduling, resourcing, and ensuring projects stay within budget.
Quality control. Ensure all fabricated items meet the design specifications and quality standards of the firm and the client.
Manage fabrication team. Lead and manage a team of skilled fabricators, providing direction, feedback, and mentorship.
Maintain safe work environment. Ensure that all fabrication work adheres to safety standards and regulations.
Collaboration with designers. Work closely with the design team to understand the design concept and specifications for each project.
Materials sourcing. Oversee the sourcing of materials and suppliers for the fabrication process.
Project management. Work closely with Head of Design and Project Coordinator to ensure fabrication tasks are completed on time and within budget.
Client liaison. Communicate with clients as needed about the progress of the fabrication process, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience in a fabrication management role, preferably within an exhibit design or related industry.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, and safety regulations.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Good project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret design plans and specifications.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Degree in a relevant field such as Industrial Design, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Work Environment
The Head of Fabrication typically spends time in both an office environment and on the production floor within Upland. This role may require additional hours to meet project deadlines and may involve some travel to installation sites. It often requires a hands-on approach to ensure the quality and accuracy of the fabrication process. Given the nature of the work, remote work is typically not possible for this role. Safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, or ear protection, may be required when working in the fabrication area.
