Museum Label Rails

Standard Dimensions

We’ve built quite a few museum label rails at this point, and they’ve all seemed to converge around a few standard details.

Most of our label rails (reading rails) start with the front edge 32″ off the floor, and lean towards the visitor at a 30 degree angle.

Here’s a simple diagram:

We’ve found that this museum label rail design does a good job of cutting down on glare for many visitors, and is a height accessible for nearly everyone, including those with bifocals or poor vision.

At Flint Hills Design, we incorporate label rails into most of our museum design projects, and would be happy to help you design custom label rails and graphics for your museum or gallery space.
